Justin's dad entered these cookies in a small-town baking contest and won first prize. Even though the recipe had originally been Granny's he tweaked it a little so he always said it was his recipe. He sat Lauren down one day to teach her how to make them and he actually "ashed" his cigarette 3 times into the batter. He told her that was one of his secrets, but I imagine it was to see the surprised look on his granddaughter's face!
In large bowl mix:
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. melted Crisco shortening
2 whole eggs
2 TB molasses
1 t. vanilla
Sift together:
1-1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
¼ t. gr. Cinnamon
Stir in and add:
1 c. finely chopped pecans
2 TB sliced almonds
3 c. quick oatmeal
1 c. raisins, optional
Mix real well and roll into balls; flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 minutes or until golden brown.
