2 sticks butter, softened
½ c. Crisco shortening
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 c. 7 Up
3 c. flour
1-1/2 t. vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, shortening and sugar with electric mixer. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition; add vanilla. Alternate the dry ingredients with the 7 Up and beat until well blended. Bake in a greased and floured bundt pan for 1 hour. Do not overbake or cake will be dry. Cool pan on wire rack for 10 minutes then invert onto a cake platter.
OPTIONAL GLAZE:
½ c. sugar
¼ c. 7 Up
While cake is cooling, make the glaze by stirring together the 7 Up and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat and boil 1-2 minutes or until sugar is completely dissolved. Punch holes in the top of the warm cake with a toothpick. Spoon glaze over the cake and cool completely before serving.
