DEDE’S HOMEMADE CUSTARD ICE CREAM

4 eggs, beaten
3 c. sugar
5 TB flour
Gallon whole milk
1 can Eagle Brand condensed milk, optional
3 TB vanilla

In heavy dutch oven stir together the eggs, sugar and slowly whisk in 2-3 cups of milk. Cook over low heat until it starts to bubble, but do not boil. Cool completely. Add vanilla, and if desired Eagle Brand milk. Pour into ice cream freezer can and fill with enough milk to fill within 3 or 4 inches of top. Generously add rock salt and ice continuously while freezing, being careful not to let water level rise enough to get into the lid or your ice cream will be salty!

For Lemon ice cream add a small bottle of lemon flavoring. Omit vanilla and Eagle Brand milk.

For Strawberry ice cream add 1 bottle or can strawberry soda (Big Red) and crushed strawberries, either fresh or frozen that have been thawed. Omit vanilla and Eagle Brand milk.

For Banana ice cream add 3 mashed bananas and stir in well. Omit Eagle Brand milk.

For Peach ice cream add about 4diced fresh peaches. Omit Eagle Brand milk.

For Peppermint, add about 1-2 cups finely crushed peppermint candy. Omit Eagle Brand milk.
